Recovery

The recovery process is built around recovery strategies and recovery options.  A recovery option is a specific method that is available for recovering funds for a specific transaction type and dispute scenario.  A recovery strategy is a group of related recovery options.  For example, Visa Fraud is a recovery strategy and includes a recovery option that aligns to each of the fraud reason codes that Visa provides for issuer chargebacks.  A single dispute may have recovery rights under more than one recovery option, but it's unlikely that more than one recovery strategy would apply to a single claim.  The system will automatically evaluate dispute details to determine which recovery strategy and, within that strategy, which recovery option is most appropriate.  In some cases, a user may be required to determine an appropriate recovery option or review then one selected by the system.

Recovery Strategies

Automated Recovery

The system will automatically evaluate each dispute and apply the most appropriate strategy and option for recovery success.  If the dispute does not quality for recovery, enough information is not available to the system to make the determination, or if additional information and/or documentation is required in order to continue processing, a user may be required to take action.

Recovery Validations

A key component of recovery options is evaluating whether recovery rights exist.  Dispute Validations are rules that are evaluated to determine if a particular recovery option is valid for a dispute.  For example, a dispute may be invalid under a recurring chargeback reason if the disputed transaction was not a recurring transaction.  For applicable validation rules, view the individual recovery options within each strategy above.  If the system is unable to validate a dispute for at least one recovery option, a user may be required to complete the Disposition Case Assignment assignment.

Recovery Dependencies

A dependency is an additional check for the presence of information or documentation that is required for a specific recovery option.  For example, in a "paid by other means" scenario, an issuer may be required to provide share the type of payment and proof that it was used.  For applicable dependency rules, view the individual recovery options within each strategy above.  When dependencies have not been satisfied for the applied recovery option, a user may be required to review the case.  This can happen in Disposition Case Assignment or, if a recovery option was automatically applied by the system, the Review Chargeback Assignment assignment.
