Mastercard Recovery Option Defaults

QFD evaluates disputes to determine the best recovery option available, based on the information available.  The approach is different for non-fraud disputes and fraud claims.

Disputes

For non-fraud disputes, this evaluation is based on the information that is collection from the accountholder during the intake process.  A claim reason is set based on this information and that claim reason aligns to a chargeback reason code, as shown in the table below.

Fraud

For fraud and authorization claims, QFD includes a robust set of rules for evaluating each dispute to determine if chargeback rights exist for one, or more, chargeback reason codes.  Those reason codes, or recovery options, are evaluated in the order shown in the table below and the first option that passes all validations is applied to the dispute.  For more information about the specific rules that are evaluated, view the page for each individual option.
