Fraud Card Not Present Transaction

Conditions

One of the following:

  • The Cardholder disputes the validity of a Card Not Present Transaction due to fraud and the response by the Acquirer or Acquirer Processor to a TRR for the Transaction subject to Dispute did not include valid proof of delivery.
  • The Issuer or Issuer Processor security personnel determine, following the completion of a fraud investigation, that the Acquirer or Acquirer Processor did not include the Card Identification Number (CID) in the Authorization Request.

Following are examples of applicable scenarios:

  • The response by an Acquirer or Acquirer Processor to a TRR for the Card Transaction subject to Dispute did not include valid proof of delivery of the goods or services subject to Dispute
  • The Acquirer, Acquirer Processor or Merchant submitted the Card security code in the Authorization Request, and the Issuer or Issuer Processor provided a positive Authorization Response; however, the Issuer or Issuer Processor did not verify the Card security code or the Card security code verification result was a mismatch

Issuers or Issuer Processors may NOT initiate a Chargeback Request with the Reason Code 4868 for:

  • A Dispute involving a Card Not Present sale with a Card issued in the United States by a Merchant in the United States where goods were delivered or services were provided
  • Transactions conducted at a Chip Card Terminal
  • The Transaction being referenced for the Dispute is more than $50 and contains valid indication of a PPE Transaction


Timing

An Issuer or Issuer Processor may initiate a Chargeback within the following timelines as applicable:

  • If a Transaction Retrieval Request (TRR) is submitted, a Chargeback must be initiated between 60 calendar days of the TRR initiation date and 30 calendar days of the close date of such TRR.
  • If there is no TRR, the Chargeback must be initiated within 120 calendar days of the Processing date of the Card Transaction.
